Homemade Baby Food/ Puree for Baby

While homemade baby food could seem like a chore – it is the healthier choice and allows you to introduce new foods to your baby in a way that YOU control. “But I don’t have time” – you say.

Do you have thirty minutes… a week? Oh yes, the time it takes you to pick out your baby food at the grocery store is the time that it will take to make your baby the healthiest, most delicious food they could ever eat.

Homemade Baby Food Ideas

Follow these four steps and you’ll be making delicious home made food for your baby!

1. Choose what you want to feed your baby – Well that’s easy enough right? Find the fruits & vegetables you’d like to feed your baby. Wash them with water, chop them and peel them. Want a quick tip? Find the produce/fruits you want in the frozen food section. They’re fresh and already ready to go!

2. Steam it up! – Steam up your vegetables and fruits – don’t boil. Why? When you boil food, you actually reduce the number of valuable of nutrients that you could be giving your little one. Want another quick tip? Use your microwave – it’s quick, easy, and keeps your nutrients where you want them.. in your food!

3. Puree, Puree, Puree – Baby Food is all about the puree. Don’t know how to puree? It’s easy! Pop your steamed vegetables and fruits in a blender/food processor/Magic Bullet and mash them up until they are soft, clear of big pieces and have the consistency of.. well, babyfood. If you need add a bit of water to make this happen, do so, it may decrease the nutritional value but not enough to be worried about.

4. Turn it into Ice Cubes! – Here comes the fun part – Pour the puree into ice cube trays. Cover them up and put them in the freezer overnight or for at least 8-10 hours. Take out the tray, pop out the ice cubs and store them in a freezer bag. Put your baby food back in the freezer and you’ve got yourself already made homemade baby food that you can use for up to 2 months! Make sure you label them so that you don’t mix them up.

Each ice cube tray is 1 ounce of food. When you’re ready to feed your baby, take a couple of cubes out of your freezer bag, defrost and warm it up and you’re done! Remember to check the temperature before feeding your baby. If you’d like to thin out your baby food because it’s too thick – you can add breast milk or formula to the mix. If your baby food is too thin – add a mashed banana or yogurt to thicken it up!

My favorite combination is Mangos, peaches and Bananas – What’s yours?
